Act Professional
Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 09:41AM BizBash.com is a website for professional event planners in 5 cities with a guide for Chicago on the way. The site is like the Wall Street Journal for the Event Planning Industry with articles that feature some amazing parties as well as write-ups about new venues and industry trends. Aside from that, the website provides a list of resources from party rentals to caterers to florists and entertainers.
Use this site to think outside the box of wedding planning to find entertainment like caricature artists and tarot card readers or get some inspiration for favor ideas from a roundup list of best finds from the International Gift Fair.
I was referred to Biz Bash via the talented Luis Collazo of Lotus 212 Flowers in NYC who noticed I was an innovative bride that wanted to create a unique wedding. Biz Bash led me to Stuart White Productions, an entertainment resource in New York that manages some of the most novel performers like Hotwire, a string quartet that have a repertoire covering classics and Jazz standards to rock (think Beattles and Zeppelin) to hip hop (they've worked with Kayne West) and pop (they perform a beautiful arrangement of James Blunt's You're Beautiful). I ended up hiring The Supper Club led by Marty Silkeys a pianist and vocalist that specializes in big band era and Sinatra standards for my Per Se nine course wedding reception. Although Marty does perform at Weddings here and there, he is more of a corporate, fundraiser type performer working in venues like The Four Seasons and Cipriani. Marty was absolutely perfect and I could not imagine being able to find anyone of his caliber through any of the wedding-specific entertainment vendors.
So have a look and create a wedding that would impress the likes of Colin Cowie.
