The Future Looks Bright

What I love most about showers is that they mark the beginning of some very exciting events to come. With that in mind, I came up with the idea for a shower theme that plays on the notion of things to come - the future.
I've gone to many corporate events and even a shopping party at Henri Bendels where Palm Readers, Tarot Card readers and even Tea Leaf readers were on hand. I think the whole idea of it is really fun even for non-believers. Those not into Hocus Pocus stuff will at least have fun discussing how they were told they'll have 5 kids (I've learned from experience!). For hostesses in the NYC area, check out NYSketches LLC for fortune-telling entertainers.
Amplify the theme by adding pretty glass orbs to your table top setting (if your color scheme works well with black, put out some 8 balls!). Give out Emily's Chocolate Fortune cookies as favors (available in three themes: Love, Friendship and Wedding); I've looked into many custom-fortune cookie vendors, and Emily's stands out to be one of the chicest. Another favor idea is to give out treats packaged in mini velum bags and sealed with SusyJack's sweet Good Fortune Clips. If you're assigning seats, use these clips to secure seating cards onto cloth napkins - what a great way to spruce up a place setting!
Instead of playing a shower game, have guests write out funny fortunes for the bride and groom, fill them in a glass fish bowl and have the bride read them aloud (have your guests vote on the best fortune(s) for prize winner(s)). For a baby shower, ask guests to write out wishes for baby's bright future - like messages offering the gift of strength, beauty, intelligence, charm etc. a la fairy-godmother blessings in Sleeping Beauty sans the whole pricking a finger thing of course.

Stumble It!

This idea is something new. It's great coz my friends love fortune telling.
I'm thinking if it's ok to use baby hair clips for the quotes...
