Friday, February 22, 2008 at 11:23AM For your next event, plan something fun and culturally educating at Kyotofu, New York's only Japanese Dessert Bar. Events vary from sake tastings, to traditional Japanese Tea Ceremonies, to multiple course dining with a focus on tofu as the main ingredient. Kyotofu is not only recognized as New York Magazine's 2007 "Best New Restaurant" but also won accolades for "Best Cupcakes." The modern space accommodates 25-30 comfortably and the private events coordinator is super helpful and has been known to throw in mini-dessert bags for shower favors gratis. What is great about this space is that the decor is so pretty and minimal at the same time that various themes and color stories will work beautifully without blowing the budget. If you have a party of 25 or greater, the restaurant will shut down for you and your guests without charging an exorbitant fee and the possibilities of menu offerings are not only unique but extensive. For smaller get-togethers, try booking seats at one of their new Cultural Series that feature lectures about the Kimono, Shinobue performances, and Tenugui (Japanese cotton wrapping) workshops.
