New Years Resolution Series - Part I

2008 is coming to an end and MV is posting a series of fresh new entertaining ideas for an exciting 2009...

For the first posting of the series, I bring you my New Years: New Grub special! This year I've covered cupcakes and French Macarons galore! Today, I'd like to share my latest obsession, a treat I'm calling the "it" dessert of 2009 - DONUTS!!!

They're fried, easy to make and cheap to buy pre-made and, in tough economical times, nothing is more comforting than sweet delicious fried dough!!! Check out my super easy recipe on Design*Sponge's In The Kitchen series.

If you're in NYC check out AQ Kafe for yummy German donuts: Berliner, stop by Bouchon Bakery for melt-in-your mouth Bouchekins available only on weekends (I served these this past Thanksgiving and also gave them out as chic favors boxed in gable boxes a la Dunkin-Donuts-Munchkin-Style) and, for more variety try The Doughnut Plant.

Throwing a New Years Bash? Serve up some donuts and coffee to your guests early in the AM when the Champagne runs dry.... Brides, what about donut hole favors? Grab some adorable mini gable boxes from Beau-coup and fill up your chic packaging with a few mouth-watering donut holes!

Happy Holidays and Happy Eating Everyone! XOXO WKP

From top - my own donut hole creations, strawberry Bouchekins from Bouchon Bakery, Bouchon Bakery Bouchekin favors in Beau Coup mini gable boxes, and "coffee and donuts" from Per Se (photo by David Willems).

a common jewish recipe for Hanukka! we call this 'Sufgania', that can be translated as 'a little sponge'. very popular here in israel... with the jam and everything.. you can also try sprinkle some sugar powder only on top, it comes out great! thousends of calories though... the dount hole it known here as 'sfinge', and has imigrated from moroco (the name is in marocan arabic)

happy holidays for every one!
